PETA is insane, so whatever, but that the Humane Society is giving Rick Santorum
such good press really galls me.
PETA says:
"He's a man with a heart, and he doesn't think it's any more acceptable to treat animals cruelly than humans," said Mary Beth Sweetland, director of research and investigations for the Norfolk, Va.-based PETA.
The Humane Society says:
"We support elected officials who have a proven record of leadership on animal welfare issues and Rick Santorum fits that characteristic precisely," said Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of the Humane Society and a Humane USA board member.
Rick Santorum says:
"In every society, the definition of marriage has not ever to my knowledge included homosexuality. That's not to pick on homosexuality. It's not, you know, man on child, man on dog, or whatever the case may be. It is one thing. And when you destroy that you have a dramatic impact on the quality." --Rick Santorum, AP interview
Is that what qualifies as pro-animal? Protecting marriage from the dog fuckers? I guess his on-going cruelty to consenting homosexual adults and his continued assault on the privacy of all adults don't have to be taken into consideration defining humane behavior?
Seriously, if Rick Santorum is the best friend animals have, animals are in big trouble.

I'm gonna just say the first thing that pops into my mind. What a prick!
This guy totally stands for what scares the shit out of me in this country.
The fact that I get the pun in the title of this post (and I sort of wish I didn't)--does that make me really hip or really sick?
Elias
I know that this is completely off topic in that the post is about what a dick santorum is, but peta's support for his is not all that surprising - peta is on record as having killed 10,000 or more cats and dogs since opening their "shelter' in norfolk, they have an adoption rate of less than 15% whereas the county humane society has an adoption rate of like 75-80%.
Peta kills those it is sworn to protect, Santorum oppresses those he is sworn to protect, really the recommendation makes sense
LE
LE, it frightens me when you and I are in agreement. Am I becoming more conservative or are you becoming more liberal or is it the end of the world?
Elias, some jokes you have to make, even if most folks don't read Dan Savage. Still, I'm glad someone got it.
Aunt B! I can't believe you're using such vile language! The "S" word is pretty vulgar, even by your standards.
Probably it is the end of the world if you two agree so easily, but I still like LE's comment.
Which leaves the question, if you aren't acting in the interest of those you are sworn to protect, then whose interests are you acting for? I would assume one's own selfish ones.
I was just thinking it'd been a while since you mentioned Mr. Savage in any context - SuperGenius
People believe you should treat animals well, but PETA is not a mainstream group -- they're not quite the Animal Liberation Front but they;re not a mainstream group. PETA believes that owning a pet is the moral equivalent of slavery (which may explaing why the adoption rate at their center isn't so hot) and that you should only eat animals that have died of natural causes or an accident e.g. roadkill.
And I love that ol' Ingrid, PETA's head honcho, takes insulin shots (even though it's bad to conduct ANY animal testing and therefore all PETA members must stop taking any medication -- Tylenol, birth control, antibiotics, cancer treatments, Viagra, etc).
Maybe if Santorum gets run over by a truck they'll eat him?
